Tesco Great School Run 2010

Press Information

The Tesco Great School Run is a fantastic way to profile how your school is going the extra mile, to improve healthy lifestyles in children. Your activities make great news stories. So why not tell the local community all about your involvement this year, to promote your school as part of the campaign aiming to reach over one million children!

Does your school have a former pupil who has gone on to become a famous person such as an Olympian or a tv presenter? If so, perhaps you could invite them back to your school to start or even participate in your Tesco Great School Run!

Why not let your local newspaper or radio station know what you are up to? To do this and be able to participate in press interviews, it’s really important to understand the Tesco Great School Run’s key messages, which are:

  • The Tesco Great School Run highlights the importance of healthy eating and physical activity as part of a balanced lifestyle among children at Key Stage II
  • The initiative aims to persuade teachers and education chiefs to make sure that sport and exercise figure high on the academic agenda and get children and their families to adopt a healthier approach, as early as possible
  • This year will be the 8th year the Tesco Great School Run has taken place and organisers hope to get one million children to take part
  • To enable even more schools to join in at a time that is convenient for them this year's run can take place from 7th May to 23rd July 2012
  • Free to sign-up and easy to understand, the kids and staff love it!

Local newspaper journalists and photographers may wish to attend any training sessions and/or events taking place at your school. Contact and publication details for any member of the press should always be recorded on arrival and fed back to our press team where possible please.

If you would like some help in drafting a press release for the local media, or have any media-related questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our press team: Matt Forster or Sarah Banks on 0191 261 4250

We look forward to hearing from you!
